Imphal, October 28 2014:
Indian Oil Corporation's LPG Bottling Plant located at Awang Sekmai has not been able to cater to the demand of various gas agencies and distributors of the State.
An official of a gas agency told a group of reporters that the bottling plant does not supply even half of the monthly quotas of the gas agencies or distributors.
As such, a customer gets only four to five cylinders in a year though they are entitled to receive 12 cylinders, the official added.
Moreover, among the LPG filled cylinders supplied by the plant, there are many which have defective valve and leakage on the cylinder, he added.

Maintaining that gas agencies staff had to encounter many inconveniences including altercation with customers due to these defective cylinders, the official said that half of the total 306 LPG cylinders loaded in a truck are defective.
Just as Loktak Hydro Power Project has not been able to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the public, Sekmai LPG Bottling Plant is also yet to provide adequate LPG to the people of the State, he added.
Meanwhile, the bottling plant has been frequently suspending receipt of challans from gas agencies due to the online network failure, he said and added that LPG bullet tankers and retailers equally suffer when such instances happen.
On the other hand, domestic customers are also suffering as the Government has failed to check supply of domestic LPG cylinders to hotels, restaurants and other commercial establishments, he said and pointed out that there is an IOC guideline to supply only commercial cylinders which weigh 19 kg to commercial establishments.
He observed that there was no such inconveniences when the State did not have a gas bottling plant.
