Ma Beti Mela cum "Save the Girl Child" awareness prog held at CCpur

CCpur, September 26 2017:
A one day Ma Beti Mela cum awareness programme on "Save the Girl Child" was organised by RMSA, Churachandpur at District Training Centre, Tuibong today .
Speaking at the event, chief guest of the function, DC Shyam Lal Poonia, underlined the importance of women as the pillars of the society and the reason for continuation of life .
Expressing deep concern over the recent incidents of girl child trafficking from the town, Poonia appealed to all the people to take the cue from Prime Minister's Campaign 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' for a socio-economically inclusive society .

He spoke on the need to provide an enabling and equitable environment especially for girl child .
Resource persons from various fields interacted with the students and parents who participated in the programme .
Advocate Margret Traite, highlighted the rights and entitlements of women and appealed all mothers and girl students to be more vocal and strong in order to uphold their self respect and dignity .
In-charge of Anti Human Trafficking Unit, Churachandpur police, T Tualsonmung educated the gathering on various aspects of human trafficking and stressed upon the need of collective social responsibility in curbing the menace .
He also appealed to the parents not to get lured by unorganised agencies and strangers and urged them to inform the police about any suspicious activities, for timely action .
Highlighting the importance of education for girl child, Chairperson of Child Welfare Committee, Churachandpur, Florence Lamkhongai talked about parents providing attention to their children and added that due importance should be given to education, health and hygiene of a girl child .
Another resource person, NEISDF/NESEED Foundation CEO, Lianzapau Vaiphei, briefed about the prospects of livelihood and skill development initiatives to become financially independent .
During the programme, 17 girl students from different schools of the district securing first division in class X and XII exams were felicitated along with their mothers, as a token of respect and in recognition of their efforts towards education .
A total of 500 women and girls attended the programme.
