Imphal, August 26 2014:
A mass tree plantation drive under the theme 'go green Manipur' organised by the Rotary Club of Polo City, Imphal was held today at Little Flower School, Tiddim Road.
Rotary Club President Sinam Pritam said the event was organised mainly with the aim to educate students of the importance of tree plantation.
The State has seen numerous tree plantation drives across the land.
However, only few of the saplings planted in the process have matured into a full grown plant due to lack of necessary attention.
These plants are left on its own after planting owing to which most of which dry up and die, the president stated.
The Rotary members would however take every possible care and, through regular inspection, make sure that the trees planted do not end up the same way, Pritam assured.
The club has been planting tree saplings all over the State since 2010 under the theme Go Green Manipur, Public Relation Rotary member RK Ratankumar Singh informed.
The major objective, he continued, of the initiative was to contribute in the worldwide effort to prevent ozone depletion.
The Rotary Club further lauded teachers and students of Little Flower School for taking part in the drive.
