President to visit Mauritius today

New Delhi, April 23 2011:
President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil would be visiting Mauritius on a five day state visit starting from tomorrow.
Addressing a press conference ahead of the President's tour, External Affairs Secretary (West) Vivek Katju said that the President's tour would improve bilateral relations between India and Mauritius besides enhancing historical cooperation and friendship between the two countries.
The President's tour would be a political exchange between the two countries at the highest level.
Pratibha Patil would meet her counterpart Anerood Jugnauth and hold talks with Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam on several issues of bilateral, regional and international issues.
The President would also meet Mauritius opposition leader Paul Raymond Berenger, Chief Justice Bernard Sik Yuen and Mauritius National Assembly Speaker Rajkeswur Purryag.
She would also address the Mauritius National Assembly before unveiling a bust of Mahatma Gandhi at the Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture.
The President would then interact with the Indian community living there.
Secretary Katju said that University of Mauritius would confer President Patil with the Doctor of Civil Law Degree.
The President would be accompanied by the Union Shipping Minister, three MPs and other officials in addition to media persons selected from different states of India and the national media.
