'Immunisation prog taken up on war footing'

To reach out to the unvaccinated and partially vaccinated children in the interior areas of Manipur, Directorate of Family Welfare Services, Manipur is taking up immunization works at a grand scale under Mission Indradhanush, said Dr K Rajo, Director, Family Welfare while addressing the press conference organized by DIPR here today at DIPR premises.
He said the main objective is to achieve 100 per cent immunization by 2020 .
Three rounds have already been completed successfully at the identified districts by forming Task Force Immunization team who try to reach the villages by all means.
There are many villages in Manipur which have no communication system, he added.
He said the immunisation campaign is quite successful and there is no polio case in Manipur.
After getting some reports of possible cases in Mizoram, Myanmar border areas, immunization process was intensified in the Manipur-Myanmar border areas, said Dr Thokchom Nabakishore, Joint Director.
Dr Thiyam Arun, Joint Director said due to successful implementation of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, since 2003, the number of girl child born in every 1000 boys reached 1064 this year as per records registered with the authority.
So far 107 ultrasound machines have been registered in Manipur and no one is allowed to use ultrasound machine without registration as it can determine sex of the unborn child.
All machines which can determine sex of unborn child have to be registered with the Government.
In the State, Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts are controlled by District Family Welfare Officers and the rest� Senapati, Ukhrul, Tamenglong and Chandel are controlled by District Immunization Officers.
In Manipur, pentavalent vaccination was launched on October 8, 2015 and Inactivated Poliovirus Vaccine (IPV) was launched on April 1, 2016.In the recently held Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) Programme held in January and February 2016, a target of 334054 was kept and could achieve 105.60 per cent in the first round and 105.29 per cent in the second round.
The electronics Vaccine Intelligence Network (eVIN) was introduced under the United Nations Development Programme by supporting manpower at State and district level for smooth implementation and improving the efficiency of vaccination management at all the Primary Health Centres, Community Health Centres, District Hospitals in all districts including sub-districts and State Hospitals like Jawaharlal Nehru (JN) Hospital and Central Government hospital like Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) etc.
Family planning methods are conducted and to encourage people to adopt permanent method of family planning, Government of India has been implementing a scheme since 1981 to compensate the acceptors of sterilisation for the loss of wages for the day on which he/she attended the medical facility for undergoing sterilisation.
Family Planning Indemnity Insurance Scheme was introduced from November 29, 2015 to take care of the cases of failure of sterilisation, medical complication for death resulting from sterilisation, and also provide indemnity cover to the doctor/health facility performing sterilisation procedure.
As new medicines are introduced every day refresher training courses for medical and para medical personnel are regularly conducted.
The department also reviews maternal death and the death for every 1 lakh birth was 70 according to the latest report.
In 2012 Manipur won the first place for the decline of Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) with 10 death per 1000 live birth and in 2013 Manipur stood at the second rank in decline of Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) only next to Goa.
