Imphal, December 15 2014:
Thirty-six kilometres away from Churachandpur district headquarters, locals of Henglep Sub-division have been constructing their own road with funds from their pockets under the guidance of a Churachandpur based organisation - Social Economic Development Organisation (SEDO) - without seeking any form of help from the State Goverment.
A team of reporters along with Information Centre for Hill Area (ICHAM) embarked on an inspection drive of the road to the sub-division today.
Talking to the team, SEDO president Sokholal Haokip informed that the locals, through contributions, have purchased a bull dozer for constructing the road.
The construction works of the road started from the beginning of 2014 with an aim to ease Henglep villagers of its transportational problems, Sokholal informed.

The former road to Henglep was the National Highway 150 (115 kms).
The road is presently in a pathetic condition.
Since its recognition as a sub-division in 1969, Sokholal said that Henglep has been completely neglected by the Government.
Most villages under the sub-division due to improper road conditions have had to face utmost difficulties.
To ease the villagers of the woes, SEDO took up the construction works of an alternative road leading to Henglep with the help of the villagers, he added.
About 21 km of construction work upto Mongken out of the total calculated 36 kms has been completed so far.
The remaining 15 kms, Sokholal added would be completed soon.
An estimated sum of Rs 50 lakh has been utilised for the construction works till now.
When completed, the distance from district headquarters Tuibong to Henglep can be covered in just 2 hours against the required one day journey in the former road.
Sokholal has further called for the State Government's intervention adding that the road if assisted by the State would have been completed in a shorter period of time than has been consumed.
ICHAM president N Boi lauded SEDO and the villagers of Henglep for their hardwork.
The State had disbursed several funds to repair NH 150 without much effect, he added.
He has also appealed to the State Government to assist the villagers and SEDO in the construction works of the road.
The ICHAM president further assured their help in the construction works during the inspection drive today.
