Imphal, February 11 2018:
All preparations are almost completed for the silver jubilee celebration of the All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO).
Speaking to media persons at their Kwakeithel office this evening, AMUCO president Ph Deban said that delegates from Assam, Tripura and Bangladesh apart from Jiribam and Moreh will attend the two-day silver jubilee celebration.
However, imposition of 48 hours bandh all over the State with effect from 6 am tomorrow is a big hurdle to all the delegates coming from different parts of the State and beyond, Deban said.
He appealed to both bandh sponsors as well as delegates not to impose any restriction on the movement of delegates and come to the silver jubilee celebration without any sense of fear.
Through a press meet held on January 13, AMUCO had appealed to each and every group not to call any bandh or blockade on February 12 and 13 .
In spite of the appeal, a 48 hour bandh has been called all of a sudden.
The bandh sponsors should have thought twice before calling bandh on the particular dates, Deban rued.
Notably, KCP-MC (Nongdrenkhomba Group) which had signed an MoU with the State and Central Governments called a State-wide bandh from 6 am tomorrow till February 13 midnight.
For the past many years, Manipur has been witnessing a restive situation marked by all kinds of unwanted incidents.
One such ugly incident was the communal clash of 1992-93 .
AMUCO was set up to pacify the situation and resolve the conflict, Deban said.
Since then AMUCO has been taking a pivotal role in tackling myriad issues including threats to the integrity of the State and rampant human rights violation.
Now AMUCO is on the verge of completing 25 years and the silver jubilee is being organised to commemorate the quarter-century mark, said the president.
AMUCO general secretary Sorokhaibam Sanjoy said that a website would be launched as a part of the silver jubilee celebration apart from holding a photo exhibition.
A souvenir would also be released, Sanjoy added.
