Imphal, December 10 2018:
Veteran politician Okram Joy has stated that he has joined Congress party to fight BJP Government's challenge to the Constitution of India, unity and integrity of the country.
Altogether 32 people who have joined Congress party anew including O Joy, former BJP candidate in Uripok AC Dr N Dwijamani, former BJP vice-president Md Abdul Rahaman Khan alias AR Khan, retired Col Shantikumar Sapam, two IMC Corporators, Pradhans and Ward Members were accorded a warm reception at Congress Bhavan here today.
Speaking at the gathering, O Joy said that instead of bringing 'Ram Rajya', BJP has established 'Ravan Rajya' in the country and they are ruling the country at their whim thereby rendering democracy totally meaningless.
Saying that he committed a big blunder in joining BJP for a short period, Joy apologised to the public.
"I'm deeply disturbed and aggrieved by the political situation unfolding in the country and BJP's style of governance.
BJP has been working to fragment the country into multiple pieces in the name of religion and I think it is my obligation to do something to save the country", Joy asserted.
"I've the will and courage to sacrifice all personal interests and fight the challenges posed by BJP to the Constitution, integrity and unity of India", he continued.
He then asked the people to ponder over the future of the whole country if BJP is allowed to rule the country any longer.
With the common objective of saving democracy in the country, all political parties other than BJP have launched a movement.
Reminding the promises of the BJP-led Governments of the State and the Centre to eradicate corruption, Joy questioned if corruption has been rooted out.
The previous Congress Government was nicknamed 10 per cent but the incumbent Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi deserves a nickname of 50 per cent, Joy said.
All the wrongdoings committed by Congress Government in 15 years are being repeated within 15 months by the BJP-led Government, he asserted.
By imposing undeclared democracy in the country, media have been put under heavy pressure and all types of media have been incapacitated to discharge their duties freely, Joy said.
He went on to question if arresting people for criticising the Chief Minister and Ministers ascribe to the principles of democracy.
AR Khan said that BJP is a political party based on communalism which consistently challenges both secularism and socialism.
