Imphal, May 10 2012:
Registering strong denunciation over the CM O Ibobi's reported approval of National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), the Working Committee of the Apunba Lup has contended that CM Ibobi is dis-esteeming the people by doing so.
Coming down hard on the CM, a statement issued by the Working Committee of Apunba Lup, a conglomerate of several civil society organisations, vehemently condemned the indifferent attitude of Ibobi over the sufferings of the people under the ambit of AFSPA.
Stating that the people would never ever endorse the approval of the CM on NCTC, the statement said the move of the CM itself deserves condemnation from the people of Manipur.
Pointing out that the NCTC is to be implemented under the Unlawful (Activities) Prevention Act, the WCAL questioned if there has been any hidden agenda behind giving approval for the NCTC in Manipur where more dreadful law, AFSPA is enforced.
People of the State have struggled for the repeal of AFSPA since many years back and Irom Sharmila has been on fast for ten years demanding the removal of the Act.
Against these backdrops, the approval appen ded by CM O Ibobi for NCTC would be construed as his efforts to unleash more killings in the State.
Maintaining that many chief ministers of several states where even AFSPA is not enforced had opposed the NCTC, the statement said it is baffling that CM Ibobi has given his approval to it.
WCAL further urged the CM to restrain from governing the State like running a family while also appealing all concerned citizens to extend support to the organisation towards its fight against AF SPA and other draconian Acts.
