MU hosts Natural Language Processing and Cognitive Computing (ICONACC)

A three-day International Conference on Natural Language Processing and Cognitive Computing (ICONACC) -2014 was opened today at Court Hall of Manipur University under the aegis of Manipur Institute of Technology (MIT) .
MU VC Prof H Nandakumar, MIT Principal-in-charge and Dean of Students Welfare, MU Prof RK Hemakumar, Dean, School of Humanity, MU Prof P Nabachandra, Prof A Ruvan Weerasinghe of School of Computing, University of Colombo and Prof Pushpak Bhattacharya of Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Bombay attended the inaugural session as presidium members.
Speaking at the inaugural session, Prof H Nandakumar said it was a matter of pride that Manipur University is able to host such international level conference.
He also appreciated the efforts put in by IT students and teachers to organise the conference.
The new initiative of cognitive computing would be very beneficial in preserving one's mother language.
He remarked that digital humanity is one key area of research.
Prof Pushpak Bhattacharya said that computing has become something indispensable for human society.
He remarked that Manipuri language has many similarities with English, Hindi and other languages.
In his speech, Prof RK Hemakumar conveyed gratitude to all the people who extended valuable support in organising the conference.
