Fertility campaign for cattle at Senapati

Under the sponsorship of Manipur Livestock Development Board, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services organised a one-day fertility campaign for cattle cross breeding at Taphou village in Senapati district today.
Former Director of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Th Jeevan, Taphou village Headman Kh Tailu graced the function as chief guest and president respectively.
In his keynote address, MLDB Veterinary Officer Dr O Lokendra said that although human body requires 250 gm of milk daily, people of Manipur do not take even 100 gm generally.
The programme was organised with an aim to increase milk production through cross breeding method, he added.
Speaking on the topic, 'Common causes of infertility in dairy cows and its treatment', Senapati District Veterinary Officer Dr DS Bonny Bernard said that milking must be stopped around two months prior to calf delivery.

He also mentioned about the need for regular vaccination of cattle every six months.
Senapati District Veterinary Officer Dr Dongkhanlal Zomi spoke on the topic, 'Care and management of dairy cows' .
Saying that cattle must be given proper care Dongkhanlal stressed on the need for observing the changing behaviour of cattle for early detection of animal diseases.
Speaking on the topic, 'Importance of crossbreeding programme of cattle in Manipur', District Veterinary Office Joint Director Dr H Shantikumar said that indigenous cattle could also give good amount of milk after four years of cross breeding.
Th Jeevan said that milk production is still so less in Manipur and the State Government must work a plan to enhance production.
If proper guidance and support are provided by the Government, dairy farming could solve the problem of unemployment up to some extent, he added.
Meanwhile, the Animal Disease Monitoring and Surveillance Unit and Disease Investigation Laboratory of the Directorate of Vety and AH Services, Manipur joined hands with the members of Haraorou Tangkham Gram Panchayat and organised a Mass Vaccination Programme at Yumnam Khunou and Sinam Village.
Total number of 220 cattle were vaccinated.
The initiative was to protect the animals against diseases diseases like Black-Quarter(BQ), Haemorrhagic Septicaemia(HS) and Foot and Mouth Disease(FMD) .
The programme was initiated under the supervisionn of Dr Ng Ibotombi Singh, Principal Investigator, Disease Investigation Laboratory along with his team and along with H Joychandra, H Ibungobi Singh and T Hemabati Devi.
