AR man held with drugs worth Rs 2 Cr

A personnel of 6th Assam Rifles was arrested with 2,30,000 World is Yours (W/Y) tablets worth more than Rs 2 crore by a team of Thoubal commando yesterday night.
According to a police source, yesterday a team of Thoubal district police commando were conducting random checking of vehicles at Wangjing Bazar, along Imphal-Moreh road, when they detained a suspicious silver Maruti Swift Dzire at around 8.30 pm, which was coming towards Imphal from Pallel side.
While checking, the commando team found a black airbag concealed inside the trunk of the car.
On checking the airbag, 23 packets (2,30,000 nos) of W/Y tablets were found inside and hence, the driver was detained by the commando team for questioning.
The source mentioned that during preliminary interrogation, the driver was identified as one Yengkhom Bikram (35) s/o Chandramohan alias Mohan of Kakching Moirangthem Leikai.
He further revealed that he is a personnel of 6th Assam Rifles and that he recently shifted to Arunachal Pradesh from Manipur after the completion of their tenure in the State, the source added.
Bikram was arrested and the drugs were confiscated after observing necessary formalities yesterday night and then handed over to Thoubal PS .
On the other hand, Bikram was, today, produced before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Thoubal, by the IO of the case, along with a prayer for 12 days police custody remand.
The Court, satisfied with the police prayer, remanded the Assam Rifles personnel to police custody till February 12 .
