Conference on breast cancer held

Breast Cancer Foundation (BCF) of India organised its 21st National conference at Hotel Classic Grande today.
Governor of Manipur, Dr Najma Heptulla attended the event as the chief guest along with BCF-India president, Dr Sanjay Sharma as president and BCF-India founder secretary, Dr MK Mahajan as the guest of honour with the Governor lighting the inauguration candles for the event.
Speaking at the event, Dr Najma Heptulla said, "Cancer is one of the most feared and dangerous diseases in the world.
The idea of being diagnosed with cancer can even prevent an individual from going to a doctor.
But if discovered at its early stages, one has a high chance of being cured through treatment.
"One of the most widespread forms of cancer in women is breast cancer which has been termed as the silent killer", she said and urged the people, especially women to consult a doctor at the sign of any abnormality or discomfort adding that one does not need to feel shy when it comes to such a life threatening situation.
She further said that breast cancer is quite common in the Western countries and pointed out that cases of breast cancer have also cropped up in some of the metropolitan cities of India.
"There are also cases of breast cancer in the State and as such, it is of utmost importance that women should enrol in various NGOs and educate the female population of the State regarding breast cancer", she said adding that with active participation of women, the awareness programme regarding the disease would be a huge success.
