GOC dedicates MCA projects

Two projects under the Army's 'Military Civic Action' were inaugurated by GOC Red Shield Division Maj Gen DS Hooda in Churachandpur district on January 4, 2011.A Community Hall and a Water Supply Scheme at T Champhai village in Churachandpur came as a New Year's gift to the villagers, conveyed a PIB (DW) release.
Informing that the village had requested 27 Sector Assam Rifles for a central place to hold all social functions and a focal point of all activities particularly for the children and youth of the village, the release further maintained that the GOC expressed commitment of the Red Shield Division to extend a helping hand to the people of Churachandpur with a singular aim to improve the quality of life of the local populace.
The General Officer also attended a "Campaign on Alternate Crop distribution to farmers indulging in Poppy/Cannabis cultivation" at Singhat.
The event was attended by Singhat MLA Hangkhanpao along with Commander 27 Sector Assam Rifles Brig Surendra Mehta, Singhat SDO John, representatives of the civil administration, NGOs and the Village Chiefs.
The event was conducted by GOC 57 Mountain Division emphasizing the need to join hands in making Churachandpur free from drug menace.
This was followed by a ceremony of distributing coffee, lemon grass and sandalwood saplings as an alternate crop and rations to affected individuals whose Poppy/Cannabis were destroyed, added a PIB (DW) release.
