Murder of HSO leader : Remand for accused

Solomon Baite, the prime accused in the murder of Letkholal Haokip, president of Haokip Students’ Organisation was remanded to eight days in police custody till July 11 by the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West Court today .
Solomon Baite (38) s/o (l) Thangjangul Baite of Moreh Ward number 1, was produced before the Court by the Investigating Officer of the case, SDPO Lamphel O Wangkhomba with a prayer of 15 days police remand .
The police prayer submitted that the accused was arrested at around 3.30 pm yesterday by a team of Imphal West district police .
It also stated according to their reliable source, a Maruti 800 car without registration number was seen speeding away towards Iroishemba soon after the incident and another eye witness residing at Langol Game village also claimed that he had also witnessed the same car proceeding towards Iroishemba .
The Court heard the submission of the IO and the grounds of arrest were explained to the prime accused and his family members were also informed.
The accused was also told about his right to engage a counsel of his choice or provisions for acquiring a free legal aid counsel from the State .
The Court satisfied with the prayer of the IO remanded the prime accused to eight days police custody till July 11 .
It may be mentioned that Letkholal Haokip alias Palal, president of Haokip Students’ Organisation was shot dead by unidentified individual (s) on the night of June 26 at Langol Game village.
