Imphal, April 04 2021:
The United Front, Manipur (UFM) has strongly condemned the gross violation of human rights in Myanmar by the military junta.
Briefing journalists at Manipur Press Club today, UFM chairman Sapam Samungou also decried the inaction of India and other South-East Asian countries to settle the situation at the neighbouring country after the military deposed the 'democratically' elected National League for Democracy (NLD) leaders.
He reminded that around 550 civilians had already been killed while many others have been tortured and imprisoned by the junta in Myanmar.
Further questioning the inaction of the United Nations Security Council and other UN bodies, Samungou asked whether the Sections and Clauses of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights are not applicable in the context of Myanmar.
He added that the whole world needs to condemn the brutal acts of the military in Myanmar and show solidarity to the people's movement for restoring democracy in the country.
