Janata Dal (United) has expressed strong resentment for excluding two polling stations of Chandel assembly constituency from the polling stations enlisted for repoll on February 4. Demanding that 41/36 and 41/59 polling stations of the AC be listed for repolling, JD (U) president M Tombi told media persons at the party office today that JD (U) inner agents were barred from entering the said polling stations by Congress workers and UKLF cadres on the day of polling.
Contending that apart from JD (U) workers intimidated and beaten-up by the Congress workers and some UKLF cadres the Returning Officer concerned sealed the EVMs without the presence of JD (U) representatives, he asserted that as polling could not be held in a free and fair manner these two polling stations should be included for repolling.
JD (U) nominee in Chandel AC Chungjalian Haokip, who was also present at the media briefing opined that not including the two polling stations for repolling would amount to denial of justice to the general public.
He further contended that the locals, including the village chief, are gripped in fear and apprehension following threats by UKLF cadres to vote for the Congress candidate.
