KSO, ANSAM to go ahead with blockade stir

Kangpokpi, January 31 2016: Kuki Students' Organization, GHQs and All Naga Students' Association, Manipur have decided to go ahead with its proposed stir along the National Highways in the State from midnight of February 1 .

A joint team of KSO-GHQs and ANSAM today visited different places in the State including Kangpokpi, Senapati, Karong and Mao in Sadar Hills and Senapati to mobilize support for the proposed indefinite highways bandh in the State.

Speaking to media persons this evening at Kangpokpi while returning from Mao, Seiboi Haokip, general secretary, KSO-GHQs affirmed in the presence of James Inka, assistant general secretary, ANSAM that they will go ahead with the proposed indefinite bandh on all the highways of the State including NH-2 (Dimapur-Moreh), NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam) and NH-150 (Jesami-Mizoram) which is scheduled to begin from Monday midnight.

He continued that all inter-State vehicles including passenger's buses, trucks and winger are under the purview of the bandh and any kind of trade in essential commodities along the highways will not be allowed under any circumstances.

Seiboi added that movement of inter-district vehicles including passengers buses, wingers, trucks, etc within the State will not be affected during the bandh.

However, Seiboi said that inter-district vehicles are exempted from the purview of the bandh only to ferry passengers, students, and other daily activities but they are strictly prohibited to trade or carry commodities even within the State itself.

If any inter-district vehicles are found defying the student bodies' restriction, they themselves should be held responsible for any untoward incident, further warned Seiboi.

He also said that today that they have visited various places in the State to mobilise support and met many tribal student bodies.

The two student apex bodies decided to launch the indefinite highways bandh alleging that the Government of Manipur has failed to give any positive response to their memorandum to regularize the service of the hill districts contract basis teachers 2006 batch under the Directorate of Education (S) and to rule out the problems of acute shortage of teacher in the hills schools and to bring justice towards the downtrodden teachers within January 21 .

General Secretary, ANSAM narrated that the contract basis teachers were appointed and engaged by the Directorate of Education (S) Hills under an MoU signed between GoM and ATSUM in 2006 to cater to the educational needs of the hills schools on March 31, 2006 in the office chamber of Chief Minister and added that the MoU clearly reads that the service of the teachers appointed on contract basis will be utilized until the posts are filled up on regular basis through normal recruitment or special drive as the case may be.

While urging the public of Manipur to bear with the inconveniences during the proposed stir the two student bodies have appealed for cooperation and support from the public and particularly from the inter-State and inter-district vehicles as well.
