Imphal, August 30 2011:
All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA) is all set to celebrate its diamond jubilee as a year-long along with organising various programmes in all the nine districts of the State from September 15, 2011 to September 15, 2012 .
Addressing a press conference in this connection at its office premises here today, general secretary of AMBA S Shyamcharan informed that the diamond jubilee celebration would be a year-long affairs but the main function would go on from September 15 to September 17, 2011 .
During the year-long celebration, workshops and awareness programmes would be conducted in all the nine districts of the State to highlight 60 years of service in judiciary by AMBA.
Chief Justice of India and other Justices would also be invited to take part in the celebration, Shyamcharan disclosed.
Shyamcharan appealed to all the people, NGOs and other civil organisations in Manipur not to call bandh, blockade or general strike during the period from September 15 to 17 so as to ensure successful celebration.
Observing that AMBA is one of the oldest associations in India which has been playing a major role in dispensing judiciary service to the people, Shyamcharan lamented that the demands of AMBA for setting up of a separate High Court of Manipur and filling up of vacant posts of Judges have not fulfilled by the Government for all these years.
He pointed out that the post for Judge (Grade-I officer in the Family Court is still lying vacant.
In the Special Court (NDPS, Manipur), two posts for Additional District & Session Judge are lying vacant.
Two other posts in Manipur Legal Service Authority including that of the Member Secretary (Grade-I Officer) and one post of Registrar (Grade-I officer) are also lying vacant.
All these post vacancies have caused interruption in speedy dispensation of justice in Manipur and over 5000 cases are pending, Shyamcharan asserted, while urging the Government for taking up necessary measures for filling up these vacant posts in the interest of the people and at the earliest possible.
