Chandel, September 29 2015:
A consultative meeting on three Bills passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 31 was held at Chandel district headquarters on September 28 .
Members of various CSOs, senior citizens, advocates and Members of District Council (MDC) attended the meeting.
According to a release issued by senior citizen Dr Gina Shangkham, who is also the convener of NPMHR (S), the meeting discussed the Bills and its implications at length and later resolved to reject them as they were seen clearly infringing upon the rights of the tribal people especially traditional land rights.
The release also informed that they strongly condemn the Manipur Assembly's undemocratic voice that negated the Naga people and its movement for right to self determination.
While extending support to the framework agreement between GoI and NSCN (IM), the people in the meeting urged the two entities to bring sincere and honourable settlement and also urged the Naga people to work together to realize the peace process.
The meeting further resolved to extend all possible support to all groups of people who work for the advancement of the tribal martyrs and the bereaved family members.
It is unbecoming of elected leaders to make irresponsible public statements instead of supporting and promoting peace and the peace process, it said and added that the dominant people of Manipur have been consistently attempting to sabotage every peace initiative and blocked the extension of ceasefire to Manipur.
