Imphal, April 27 2016:
Former Governor of Arunachal Pradesh and ex Army Chief, Gen JJ Singh who served in various parts of the North East shared his association with the people and his views on the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in a brief interaction with media persons after the launch function of Aryan scholarship at Manipur Press Club today.
He stated that the Army is called in to handle a situation when other means and steps have failed to control it.
It is an instrument of last resort for the Army to succeed and achieve their goal.
The Army needs some protection or immunity from being dragged into false charges by anti-Nationals with vested interest, he added.
But when the situation normalizes, that place should be free from Army, Gen JJ Singh said.
When asked on the decade old Indo-Naga peace talk, he said unless peace is restored in the place there can be no development.
What the Nagas want is a secure environment where there is progress.
He said that he hopes the outcome of the talk will be good for all people as the Nagas deserve a brighter future.
