Imphal, October 26 2016:
An enquiry committee constituted by the Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM) has found the book "Claims and Refutations: Compilation on Inner Line Permit System" is now free of contents which are detrimental to the campaign for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in ST category.
The book published by Centre for Manipur Studies, Manipur University is co-edited by Homen Thangjam, Hanjabam Shukhdeba Sharma and Aheibam Koireng Singh.
After strong objections were raised by DESAM and STDCM against a particular sentence "Demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for the Meitei is spearheaded by the Indian intelligence and the military who has taken into their folds Manipur compradors such as the retired army personnel", the Editors issued a corrigendum through media clarifying that the particular sentence was inserted out of mistake/oversight.
Nonetheless, STDCM constituted an enquiry committee to look into the book, conveyed a press release issued by Coordinating Body, STDCM.
Meanwhile, the publisher informed through media that the particular book has been recalled.
After the particular sentence has been removed, the book does not contain anything which is detrimental to the campaign for ST status, according to a report of the enquiry committee.
In view of the corrigendum/clarification issued by the editors and the publisher's assurance to recall the book, STDCM has suspended its decision to take recourse to legal action.
Any legal action initiated by anybody against any section of the particular book hereafter would not have any connection with the STDCM, it conveyed.
It further exuded confidence that the editors and the publisher, being sons of the soil, would one day support the campaign for ST status.
