A one day CME cum workshop on 'Recent Advances of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea' was organised at JNIMS conference hall today, under the aegis of ENT Department, JNIMS .
Director of JNIMS, Professor Thongam Bhimo Singh, Head of ENT Department, JNIMS, Professor M Madhumangol, Senior Consultant of MERF, Chennai, Padmashree Professor Mohan Kameshwar, president of North Eastern branch of AOI, Dr SB Pukan, chairman of reception committee, Dr P Dhakeshwar and secretary of the organising committee, N Lunglen attended the event as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively .
Speaking at the event, Th Bhimo said that obstructive sleep apnoea is a kind of ailment in which an individual experiences difficulties in breathing while sleeping, without him or her knowing .
The primary symptom of this ailment is snoring while sleeping.
Obstructive sleep apnoea can even lead to death via heart attack .
Even though most are not aware of such ailment, it can still be lethal if not properly attended to .
He further pointed out that the programme has been conducted to spread awareness about the dangers of obstructive sleep apnoea.
