Speaking to media persons, civil society organisations representatives said the indigenous settlers of the State have their unique culture and traditional values which set them apart from the rest of India.
Unchecked immigration of non-locals into the State, however, gives rise to the fear of cultural erosion amongst the people as was witnessed in the case of Tripura.
The ILP stir, they stated, is but an attempt to protect and preserve the original customs and heritage of the indigenous settlers.
Therefore, the State Government should enforce a legislation that satisfies the five-point demands of JCILPS to check the inflow of migrants in the State, they added.
The organisations have also urged the State Government to take legal actions against the police personnel who were involved in the killing of a student protester on July 8 .
Similar protest were also seen at Kontha Ahallup Bazaar board community hall, Keibi Khullen bus waiting shed and Nambol Keithel.
