Imphal, July 25 2009:
Representatives of the JAC Against the Brutal Killing Thokchom (o) Rabina Devi called on the Chief Minister today demanding a Judicial enquiry into the killing of Rabina.
But the two sides could not arrive at any understanding.
The JAC also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister.
While the JAC demanded for a Judicial enquiry to establish the facts and circumstances of the killing, Chief Minister O Ibobi opted for departmental enquiry.
A press release issued by the JAC said that all preparations have been made to launch intense forms of agitation together with the people.
However, considering the grief of the bereaved family and to perform the last rites of Rabina who was seven months pregnant, the corpse would be claimed tomorrow.
A sit-in-protest would also be staged tomorrow, the JAC said.
On the other hand, the corpse of Chungkham Sanjit of Khurai Sajor Leikai shot dead by police commandos in the July 23 firing incident has been claimed by family members after post mortem at RIMS today.
Rabina was killed by a stray during a reported shoot-out between police commandos and a UG suspect at BT Road on July 23 morning.
