Imphal, July 25:
Activists of People's Action Committee, formed in connection with extra-judicial killing of Thangjam Maorama of Bamon Kampu, today 'cremated' the effigies of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, Union MoS for Home Affairs Prakash Jaiswal and Information Minister W Leima Devi in condemnation of performing the last rites of Th Manorama without the approval of the bereaved family members.
Effigies were set on fire at the crematorium of Bamon Kampu after taking out a funeral procession with beating of cymbals and drums.
A large number of local people took part in the procession.
After the mock funeral, the processionists gathered near the gate of Manorama's house and observed two minutes silence as mark of respect to her departed soul.
Addressing the gathering, Thangjam Dolendro, one of the younger brothers of Manorama said that the actual customary rituals of her death sister would be performed only after the demand of the people has been made.
Even if her body had been consigned to flames yesterday by the police personnel, her funeral service would be performed by using a piece of her cloth, he stated resolutely.
