Workshop on substance abuse among children ends

Inclusion of life-skill programme, counselling and awareness programme on substance abuse in school curricula activities and taking up awareness programme on substance abuse among children from local governance like Panchayati Raj and Autonomous District Councils are.
amongst others, the recommendations made during the two-day workshop on Substance Abuse among Children at Hotel Classic that concluded today.
It also recommended extension of efficient treatment to children addicted to drugs at de-addiction centres.
The seminar also insisted the National AIDS Control Organisation and Manipur AIDS Control Society to provide treatment services to drug abusing children.
Setting up of out patient clinics by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and Social Welfare department for drug addicts who are given treatment services by NGOs; effective implementation of laws to minimise tobacco and drugs supplies; to ban the sales of tobacco products and other drugs in the campus of educational institutions; conducting periodical assesments at observance Homes and Children Homes in collaboration with professional social workers, Social Welfare officers, and counsellors; etc are recommended by the panels.
The seminar was jointly organised by National Commission for Protection on Child Rights, Govt of India and Department of Social Welfare, Govt of Manipur.
The two-day seminar was divided into four sessions.
The resource persons of the workshop included Dr Kalpana Desai, Associate Prof at the Dept of Social Work, Mizoram University; Dr A Jayantakumar; Technical Officer of NACO Chinkhansiam Samte; Dr S Gojendro of RIMS Psychiatric dept; E Mongsatabam; Jt Director (TI) of MACS, Aribam Mongjam; Dy Dir of MACS, Dr Rosie; District Coordinator of NYK, Y Lakhsman; SP of NAB, S Goutam; SP of Bishnupur district, Th Radheshyam and Prof W Nabakumar of MU.
The inaugural function of the seminar was attended yesterday by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh; Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai; Member in-charge of NCPCR (NE Cell), VK Tikoo; Chief Secretary, PC Lawmkunga; Chairman of MSCPCR, A Nabachandra.
