Imphal, July 22 2021:
Seven dealers have asserted that they are unable to sell fertilizers such as Diammonium Phosphate (DAP), Muriate of Potash (MOP) and Single Super Phosphate (SSP) at maximum retail price (MRP) as no subsidy is given on their transportation from Jiribam to Imphal.
Briefing media persons in front of Agriculture Department at Sanjenthong, today, one of the dealers, Thokchom Surjit stated that private dealers can market these fertilizers (DAP, MOP and SSP) at MRP if the Government gives subsidy on transporting them from Jiribam to Imphal, like the one given to urea transportation.
As urea is the only fertilizer which is being controlled by the Government, private dealers are being levied certain taxes in between Imphal and Jiribam for transporting DAP, MOP and SSP, apart from the freight charge, he reasoned.
Saying that selling these fertilizers at MRP is not commercially viable, given the cost of transportation, he reiterated that they too can sell DAP, MOP and SSP at MRP if subsidy is given on transporting these fertilizers.
In this regard, the dealers have submitted a memorandum to the Agriculture Director, he added.
