The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), in collaboration with All Manipur Recognized Private Schools' Welfare Association, has decided to take up numerous steps for the welfare of the student community of the State.
Speaking to media persons at AMSU's HQs at Thangmeiband near DM College gate today, its president Manjit Sarangthem stated that 10 orphans will be selected annually and enrolled in various private schools of the State with the aim of providing free education to the impoverished children.
AMSU in collaboration with All Manipur Recognized Private Schools' Welfare Association, will also begin taking up steps to make it mandatory for students ID cards to have their respective blood group inscribed as well as making it mandatory for each school bus to have a conductor.
Manjit said that the steps have been taken up for the welfare of the student community of the State.
He also stated that the decision to provide free education to orphans in private schools was taken in view of the hardships faced by the said children in continuing their studies.
Observing that human redevelopment is a must to reform a society, the AMSU president noted that many private schools in the State are being operated in a business oriented manner without adhering to the proper guidelines and rules necessary for education.
He pointed out that the education system in the State does not follow the guidelines of the National Curriculum Framework 2005.Urging the State Government to implement a proper education policy in the State, Manjit informed that AMSU has also set up a team to inspect the private schools of the State.
The team will identify the genuine Government recognized private schools from this academic session onwards, he added.
Lamenting the shortages faced by the education sector of the State despite numerous attempts by the State Government, Manjit claimed that the school textbooks produced by BOSEM for class I to X in Manipur, are of substandard quality and they all have only black and white pictures.
All Manipur Recognized Private Schools' Welfare Association's secretary L Joy urged all the private schools to include Aadhaar cards details and blood groups of the students during the time of taking bio-data for admission.
He also appealed to all the parents to enquire about the Government recognition status of the private schools before admitting their children.
