Imphal, December 18 2014:
Expressing dissatisfaction over the irregularities of doctors posted at Paomata Primary Health Centre, Paomata Naga Council (PNC) in a statement issued by its president accused doctors posted at Paomata PHC of not performing service of mankind but rather working merely for their monthly salary.
A meeting was held on July 4 at block headquarters Paomata where district officers and public leaders attended.
On the same day, Senapati CMO along with some leaders visited the PHC.
Upon the leaders' appeal to the doctors to provide 24x7 service considering the requirement of the people, a doctor in the PHC told the public leaders to transfer her as she could not attend to patients round the clock other than performing at the OPD, the statement said.
The statement recounted a road mishap which occurred on December 12 and the injured individuals were brought to Paomata PHC.
The injured patients had to wait for the doctors for more than an hour.
When the Medical Officer in-charge was contacted, the call went unattended.
Meanwhile, one of the critically injured persons succumbed to his injuries.
The death sparked a mob and some properties of the Primary Health Centre were damaged by the infuriated mob.
Following the death of the patient and damages of PHC properties, the president and secretary of PNC conducted a spot enquiry on
December 13 .
After a brief interaction with a doctor, the Council requested her to provide 24/7 service.
However, she maintained she could not deliver the service apart from OPD service, the statement added.
The Council said as per the statement issued by Senapati District Doctors Association where it stated that the minimum requirement of PHC with 24/7 service should comprise of five doctors but Paomata PHC has only 2 doctors.
PNC appealed to the authority concerned to take up immediate action against the irresponsible doctor(s) posted at Paomata PHC before the Council initiate mass agitation.
