Chandel, October 17 2020:
The lone district hospital in Chandel district has been neglected by the Government for a long time though the real problem troubling the poverty-stricken tribal people is health care service.
In a clear example, a lone gynaecologist who was serving in the district hospital was transferred on September 4, 2020, without a replacement.
Since then caesarean-section service has been stopped at the district hospital, said source.
Many pregnant women are facing a hard time in child delivery in the district.
Recently, a pregnant woman was rushed to the district hospital for emergency delivery, but as there was no gynaecologist, she was referred to a private hospital.
Consequently, a huge amount was incurred and to meet the hospital expenditure she even sold her domestic animals.
Similarly, other patients are also facing problems as important specialists like Medicine, Orthopedic, Gynaecologist, Ophthalmologist and Radiologist are not posted in the lone district hospital.
Further, only one technician is handling the X-ray machine which is inadequate to provide 24x7 services.
It can be also highlighted that ultrasound is lying idle in the district hospital due to non-availability of Sonologist and Sonographer.
The hospital has been running without a blood bank for quite a long time.
The blood bank was approved in 2018-19 but it is not yet established.
It is also high time to establish Intensive Care Units (ICU) and High Dependency Wards at the district hospital.
Recently, a student body of the Chandel district had demanded the State Government to depute specialist doctors and install TrueNat machines and other required medical equipment at the District Hospital Chandel.
Anguish over the State Government's lack of interest and total negligence towards the District Hospital, Chandel, people of the district are seeking Chief Minister intervention.
