Imphal, July 17 2016:
A public rally was taken out today at Khurai in protest against the State Government's alleged failure to implement the National Food Security Act (NFSA) in letter and spirit in the State.
While demanding prompt distribution of rice to NFSA beneficiaries to the exact quantity entitled to them, the protesters maintained that they would not accept rice if the quantity is short of what is entitled to them.
Saying that FPS agents have not been distributing rice to beneficiaries of Khurai area to the exact quantity entitled to them, one member of the Khurai Area National Food Security Act Development Committee decried that their secretary Ningthoujam Premila was pulled up from her home by police at around 4.10 am today after a group of people lifted rice from the FPS agent's home and dumped the same at the home of Ward No 2 Member RK Dhamendra.
She said that they would not call off their agitation until all the beneficiaries of NFSA are given rice to the exact quantity entitled to them.
Ningthoujam Premila who was freed later took part in the protest rally and decried that distribution of lesser quantities of rice is a violation of the NFSA.
