Anti-malaria month kicks off

The observance of Anti-Malaria month for Senapati DHQ began today with a function at New Life College, Senapati yesterday, our correspondent reports.
The month-long observance, held under the theme "End Malaria for good", is organised by the NVBDCP, Senapati.
The opening function was graced by ADC Chairman M L Markson and Dr H Loli Mao as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
ADC Chairman M L Markson assured all the possible help from ADC administration to help prevent the spread of Malaria in the district.
He urged doctors to organise wide campaign in remote areas to create awareness.
CMO Dr H Loli Mao, while highlighting the objectives of anti-malaria observance, said over 7000 mosquito nets have been distributed within the DHQ town areas and more than 32,000 in the entire Senapati district as a part of the malaria prevention programme.
Laii village is the first village in Manipur to be vaccinated with Japanese Encephalitis (JE), he stated.
He further urged the general public to join hands in preventing the spread of malaria.
The observance is aimed at creating awareness about using mosquito nets, keeping the surrounding clean as a means to stop breeding of mosquitoes etc.
The number of malaria cases and death due to the disease in the district have drastically reduced in 10 years, District Project Officer, K Rebecca Adane stated.
Principal of New Life College, Adam thanked the CMO for organizing the programme in the college.
He assured that the students will co-operate and participate in the campaign.
Dr Jacob, Dr Baru, Dr Sokha, Asha workers, lecturers, staff and students of New Life College also attended the opening ceremony.
