Tourists coming to Manipur for taking part in the coming Sangai Festival, which will kick start on November 21, will be warmly welcomed with cultural dances, indigenous lifestyles and cuisines on offer.
Construction and repair works of the indigenous houses present at Hapta Kangjeibung are currently under way with the aim to showcase the varied identities of the communities residing in the State during the festival, just like last year.
The State Government is planning to show numerous cultural and traditional dances of various communities every day for the period of the festival.
The Government is also making arrangement for opening 160 food stalls which will offer numerous mouthwatering indigenous cuisines apart from continental foods.
According to an official source, the authority is also planning to establish another 160 stalls (which will include people from other parts of India as well as from outside India like Thailand, South Africa, Egypt and Nepal) and altogether 99 foreign stalls have been confirmed for the festival till date.
The source informed that 950 handloom and handicraft stalls have already been allotted through computerised draw by Commerce and Industries Department for the first phase.
The said stalls also include 65 Government Department stalls which will showcase various projects, achievements etc of the Departments concerned, the source explained.
Reminding that Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will kickstart the festival at BOAT, the source continued that for the first time, Mao Cherry Blossom Festival will also be organised as a part of the Sangai Festival.
It may be mentioned that various roads in Imphal are currently being repaired/worked on by the Departments concerned in view of the fast approaching festival which will be attended by Ambassadors of USA and South Korea as well as the Princess of Thailand.
