Huge cache of arms and ammunition recoverd in Guwahati

Guwahati, November 14 2012:
As per intelligence sources, the Guwahati city police conducted an operation late yesterday and seized huge cache of arms and ammunition suspected to belong to the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) and seven people.
In a press conference IGP (Central west range) L R Bishnoi said, Acting on a tip-off, Guwahati City Police and Khetri
Police had launched an operation at NH-37 near Guwahati and seized the arms and ammunition, which were loaded in a Mahindra pick-up van.
"The seized arms, suspected to belong to the Garo rebels, were procured from Dimapur of Nagaland," a top police official said.
The seized arms are 2 AK 56, 1 Shotgun, 8 .32 pistol magazine, 1 Chinese grenade, 1 wireless set, 10 magazine of AK 56 series rifle, 1 Carbine rifle magazine, 4 live rounds of 9mm pistol and 100 7.56mm rounds.
Police arrested Ganesh gogoi of golaghat, truck driver Nekib Hussein, helper Anil rabidas, GNLA cadre Kennel marak, Umesh singh.
According to the police, the nabbed persons have revealed vital information of procuring the arms and ammunition during interrogation.
Police also found that Umesh singh is a resident of Dimapur and has close relation with various naga militant groups and other militant groups of North East.
He is the man behind all sorts of arms, ammunition and narcotics supplies.
He further confessed to police that two more people are linked with this arms racket.
The Assam police with the help of Nagaland police have arrested two GNLA cadre Tasrim sangma and Kharsang sangma.
Earlier the city police have arrested various arms supplier at different part of the city.
Police further clarified that the consignment was meant for the GNLA and was destined for East Garo hill from Dimapur via Guwahati.
Sources said the thick forested areas of Assam-Meghalaya border, the GNLA, NDFB (R), ULFA, ANBC and RVA is running their illegal activities in there.
They are using such forested route to supply arms and ammunition to and fro Bangladesh through Guwahati.
The ULFA has given the job of looking into such matters to their Major Drishti Rakjkowa not only these other militants groups has been extorting huge sums of money from businessmen, local populace, politicians etc.
