Imphal, June 14 2019:
Contending that the Chief Minister himself must be held responsible for the overdraft faced by the State in the face of the order to make his (CM) approval necessary for any fund sanctioned above Rs 2 crore, CPI Manipur State Council has demanded the authorities concerned to put the present BJP led State Government under animated suspension and initiate an enquiry on the CM.
Speaking to media persons at Irawat Bhawan CPI MSC State Secretary L Sotinkumar said that the current power struggle within the BJP party has started showing the underbelly of corruption and fund misappropriation.
This shows that the present Government is financially indisciplined, he claimed.
Recalling that Dy CM Joykumar during a press meet yesterday had claimed that on January 8 last year, an order was issued which made it mandatory to get the CM's approval for any fund sanctioned exceeding Rs 2 crore, Sotinkumar alleged that if this is true, then the Chief Minister himself could be responsible for the overdraft of Rs 274 crore.
He demanded the authorities concerned to keep the BJP led State Government under suspension for the time being and form an enquiry committee to conduct an enquiry on the CM so as to get to the root of the problem.
He also demanded punishment according to the law of all the leaders and Ministers etc who have been sucking the hard earned money of the people.
Sotinkumar alleged that the Chief Minister grabbing all the portfolios of Finance, Power and Works, is an attempt to take over the Government himself and added that CPI will never accept the announcement to conduct enquiry on only some Departments namely Finance, Power and Works etc.
He continued that Meitei rice has reached an all time high of Rs 55 per kg in the hill areas while the price of superfine rice has reached Rs 30 per kg .
Apart from this, the prices of all other essential commodities have also skyrocketed, which in turn have made life miserable for the common people, he said.
Till now, even when the condition is this serious, the State Government has done nothing to address the issue.
Instead, the commodities and items under NFSA and Annapurna scheme as well as many other schemes are being siphoned off by the Ministers and the bureaucrats and sold off for profit, which has resulted in the people not getting their deserved quota every month, he alleged.
He then demanded the State Government to take up necessary measures to address the grievances of the people and warned that failure to do so will result in the CPI, along with the people, taking up various forms of agitation.
On the other hand, All India Youth Federation, Manipur State Council (AIYF, MSC) organised the 91st birth anniversary of Che Guevara at Irawat Bhavan today which was attended by CPI MSC State Secretary L Sotinkumar, Secretariat Member L Iboyaima, AIYF MC president M Somorjit as well as numerous CPI comrades.
The participants also paid floral tributes to the photo of Che Guevara at the event.
