Meeting on peace and confidence building held

A meeting was held at Sagang village yesterday to deliberate on peace and confidence building in view of the grim situation prevailing in the State aftermath the communal violence of May 3 .
As per a statement, the meeting was held under the initiative of Colonel Rajeev, Commanding Officer 9th AR and Colonel Chandrakant Sharma of JAT Regiment and was facilitated by Emmi Serto, Chief of Sagang village and LL Alpu Kom, Chief in-charge of Tuiringphaisen village.
During the meeting, the representatives and leaders of various communities expressed sorrow and discontentment on the series of communal violence which erupted in the State posing great danger to the bond of love and harmony among the various communities.
They also pledged to maintain and strengthen the bond of love and peaceful co-existence and to strive for long lasting peace and tranquillity in the State.
Addressing the gathering, Colonel Chandrakant Sharma expressed that peace and harmony can be restored through honesty, mutual understanding and sense of humanity among the citizens and not by guns or force.
He appealed to all not to fall prey to hatred spread by those with vested interests and work collectively to maintain the relation of peace and brotherhood.
Colonel Rajeev while speaking at the occasion, urged the community leaders to make best possible efforts to achieve a peaceful environment.
Amid the tense situation experienced by the State, he appealed to all to remain calm and spread the message of love ' and brotherhood across the State.
He maintained that he will continue to work for the welfare of the State.
