Thoubal, August 13 2016 :
The JAC Against the Construction of Power Sub-station at Yairipok High School Campus has warned indefinite shut down of Yairipok High School and Yairipok Aided High School from August 17 if the construction of power sub-station inside the schools' campus does not stop by August 16 .
A decision to this effect was taken in a joint meeting of the JAC, guardians and student unions on August 12 at the schools' campus.
The JAC in a statement issued by its convenor Ksh Ito Singh said various organisations including JSCC and DESAM have submitted memorandums to the State Government demanding immediate halt to the construction process.
Yairipok High School and Yairipok Aided High School students have also been staging hunger strike against the construction since August 1 but the State Government has not given any positive responses till date.
The JAC convenor also lashed out at Wangkhem AC MLA K Meghachandra for his remark that the school campus is an agricultural land.
He said the MLA, despite being the chairman of the School Managing Committee is unaware of the fact that a portion of the school campus was used for cultivating paddy in order to generate some extra income as the school authority was unable to pay salaries to teachers regularly.
The JAC has further urged the State Government to shift the power sub-station to a more suitable site.
