Union Minister inpects WIGC, PFA office and orphanage

Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, who reached Manipur for a two-day visit yesterday, inspected Women Income Generation Centre (WIGC) and People for Animal office at Thoubal district today, our correspondent reports.
The Union Minister reached the WIGC campus at 9:30 am today and inspected the conditions in which orphans are accommodated in the centre, the ongoing training programmes for women and the products made by the participating women.
The Union Minister was pleased with how the WIGC has implemented the STEP programme of the Government of India and the varied products made by women that were displayed at the centre.
Maneka assured to fund for more training programmes for women.

At the PFA office, Maneka Gandhi encouraged the PFA volunteers and lauded their dedications.
"More organisations like PFA are needed to save wild animals", the Union Minister said.
She proposed the expansion of the organisation in other parts of the State and assured to provide assistance for the expansion.
The Union Minister also visited Eramdam gi Ningol Shanglen, an open shelter for girls at Thoubal Wangbal run by Royal Voluntary Centre (RVC).
She lauded the initiative of Royal Voluntary Centre and encouraged the staff to continue with the voluntary service.
She further urged the organisation not to hesitate in establishing direct contact with her during times of need and support.
Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal M Joy was part of the inspection team.
