Imphal, July 09 2017:
Several frontal organisations have expressed strong condemnation on the removal of Chief Secretary O Nabakishore who was replaced by Rajani Ranjan Rashmi by an order of the State Government .
Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS), in a press release termed the removal of O Nabakishore from the Chief Secretary post as an attempt to suppress the indigenous people .
JCILPS which is spearheading the movement for enactment of an effective Act to protect the indigenous people from the incessant influx of non-locals into the State suspected that the unprecedented decision was taken at the behest of the Central Government .
It said entrusting the key post to a non-local is a clear indication that the Central Government does not regard the indigenous people.
There are qualified indigenous people who can be appointed as Chief Secretary of the State, it said .
If such oppressive decisions are taken at the whims of the Central Government then a time will come when Chief Minister of the State will be sent from the Centre on deputation, JCILPS added .
On the other hand, Iramdam Kanba Apunba Lup (IKAL) has demanded revocation of the order replacing O Nabakishore by a non-local as the Chief Secretary of the State .
In a press release, IKAL said during his tenure Nabakishore worked according to the pulse of the people .
It cautioned that any untoward incident that arises in the aftermath of removing Nabakishore from the Chief Secretary post should be borne by the State Government .
It pledged to take active participation in the protests to be staged against the Government's decision .
IKAL said the organisation is set to urge the Prime Minister and the President to intervene into the matter .
Strongly condemning the replacement of Chief Secretary O Nabakishore by a non-local, a sit-in-protest was staged at Lamphel Sanakeithel today .
The protest demonstration was jointly organised by Lamphel Sanakeithel Development Authority, Awa Tengbang Lup and Sanakeithel Nupi Kanglup .
The protestors asked the reasons behind the removal of Nabakishore from the key post .
They also unanimously resolved to launch different modes of protest along with other civil society organisations if the order is not revoked by the State Government.
