Imphal, July 09 2013:
Under the supervision of Additional SP (IE) M Rajen the Imphal River banks in Mahabali section and its surroundings were cleaned up by using excavator.
The clean-up drive carried out today morning was to not only maintain decorum the religious location but to drive home the message to the locals not to dump wastes.
A temple of lord hanuman is located at Mahabali with the trees providing shelter for a number of monkeys.
Observing that piles of wastes all over Mahabali is an indication that the locals had been disregarding basics of dumping wastes at designated sites in order to prevent outbreak of diseases, ASP Rajen also noted encroachment on Government land.
A report would be placed before the Deputy Commissioner (IE) so that appropriate action could be initiated against the encroachers, he affirmed.
The clean-up drive conducted from around 10 am covered the river banks from Sanjenthong upto Mahabali temple.
