Farmers' training programmes held

One-day farmers' training programme on SRI and rice production technology was held at Kalinamai village, Tadubi sub-division under National Food Security Mission (Rice), Senapati district.
Project Director of ATMA, Senapati district, M Gojendra Singh deliberated on the new strategies of increasing rice production in the district.
Interacting with the villagers, Gojendra emphasised the need of varietal replacement of paddy to boost the production of paddy.
High yielding varieties like Tamphaphou, RCM-9 and Hybrid varieties PAC 807 having higher yield potential available in the State were distributed to around 53 farmers who attended the training programme.
The Project Director also highlighted the need of reducing the cost of production of paddy by introducing farm tools and equipment in place of the now scarce farm labourers wherever possible.
S Sanatomba spoke on SRI method of rice cultivation while Nimaichand from the Directorate provide detail information on INM and IPM.
Meanwhile, a one-day farmers' fair was inaugurated today at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre under Horticulture Mission (MM I), National Initiative on climate Resilient Agriculture and Tribal Sub-plan.
Md Nasir, Minister of Agriculture graced the inaugural function as the chief guest while Dr M Premjit Singh, Director of Extension Education, CAU Imphal and Dr N Prakash, Joint Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre were the guest of honour and president respectively.
Seeds of various crops including rice, maize, pigeon pea, black gram, seasonal vegetables and poultry chicks were distributed to the farmers.
Two books, Developing the potential of under-utilised horticultural crops of Hill region and Principles and Concepts of Organic Farming, published by the ICAR were also released on the occasion.
