Demands panic medical staff

Doctors and para-medical staff working in health centres at the periphery under the Chief Medical Officer, Imphal East have been caught in panicky situation due to multiple demands and threats from different quarters.
Doctors and para-medical staff working in health centres of Jiribam, Yaingangpokpi, Keithelmanbi etc have been reportedly threatened by using harsh words in addition to serving unaffordable monetary demands by different groups.
Decrying such acts of intimidation and making unaffordable monetary demands, medical staff working under CMO Imphal East staged a protest demonstration at Khurai Thangjam Leikai, Ayangpalli Road today.
The protesters disclosed that multiple threats made by different groups through telephone have terrified doctors and paramedical staff posted in remote areas.
Doctors and para-medical not always confined themselves in health centres.
Whenever there was any complaint of a pregnant woman falling sick suddenly, doctors and paramedical staff went to the woman's house and conducted necessary health check-up.
Moreover, they conducted immunization at different villages, household surveys and collected health related data from time to time.
Today too, there was a telephone call about a man whose hand was previously cut when reaping paddy.
Immediately doctors and staff went to the spot and stitched the wounded hand.
They further questioned how could they went around in remote areas and provide health care facility in the midst of the threats and monetary demands being made by different groups.
The protesters put up placards which read as "Leave us in peace", "Allow us to do our duty", "Stop harassing health centres", "Don't make monetary demands to health centres", "Let us serve sick people" etc.
