JD(U) submits memorandum to Governor Anusuiya Uikey

Janata Dal (United) Manipur State Unit has submitted a memorandum to Governor Anusuiya Uikey listing short term and long term measures that ought to be taken up by the State Government in the aftermath of the recent spate of violence.
A team led by Ksh Biren, president JD (U) MSU consisting of Dr Kh Loken Singh, vice-president no 1 and O Nabakishore, vice-president no 2 and secretary general Doren met with the Governor at Raj Bhavan today and submitted their memorandum.
Following this, a press meet was conducted at the office of JD (U) MSU located at Palace Compound.
Speaking to media persons, Ksh Biren highlighted some key short term measures detailed in their memorandum.
According to the JD (U) MSU president, it includes shifting the displaced families currently seeking shelter at relief camps to more secure locations, ensuring that the relief camps have ample supply of food, potable water, medicines and other essential items, announcing ex-gratia for victims and compensation for those who have lost their homes and properties.
Further, he mentioned the constitution of a 'State Level Peace Committee' as a part of the short term measures.
He opined that the Committee should consist of members from different political parties, civil society organisations, religious institutions and other eminent personalities.
The JD(U) MSU president further shared the key long term measure suggested by the party in their memorandum, namely, the formation of a high-level commission of inquiry to probe the root cause of the violence and to explore ways to ensure that such clashes do not occur again in the future.
It may be noted that the memorandum was also addressed to the President, Prime Minister and Home Minister of India.
Addressing the gathering, Dr N Nimaichand Luwang, JD (U) MSU State Coordinator termed the recent outbreak of violence as one of the most unfortunate episodes in the history of Manipur.
He stated that the State Government must take responsibility for the turmoil and make earnest attempts to restore peace and alleviate the suffering of the people.
