47th short play competition begins

The 47th Short Play competition for Creative Directors started today at the auditorium of Manipur Dramatic Unions at Yaiskul Police Lane in a joint collaboration between Theatre Centre Manipur and Manipur State Kala Akademi.
Keishamthong A/C MLA L Ibomcha Singh, Theatre Centre Manipur president Wareppa Naba and Critics' Forum Manipur president Dr IS Kangjam attended the opening ceremony of the competition as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
'A Far Cry', a play directed by Juma Khan and written by Budha Chingtham was shown as a part of the ceremony and featured artistes like P Reeta Devi (Kushum), H Okebala (Leisha), M Bobo Singh (Birahari), Ronald Thongam (police officer) and M Megharaj, L Barashyam and Sanbaam Johnson (chorus and policemen) .
M Prashanta (assistant director), Aruna Leila (production manager), Th Sanjita (make-up), Y Mani-tomba (music) and I Ibo- chouba (light) were also some of the key people behind the play.
The competition, which features a total of nine theatre groups, will be marked by a performance of two plays per day beginning from 2 pm everyday for the remaining time period.
Some of the participating groups in the competition are North East Theatre Association with 'Amamba Lambi', Waisellakpa Idu Ningthou Lamjing Lup of Konjeng Leikai with ' Jaali Mee', Kanglei Living Artiste Uchiwa with 'Meirina Meiwairak', Manipur Dramatic Union, Imphal with 'Avisaap', Royal Theatrical Club Elangbam Leikai with 'Kuthi Pikhre', Khorifaaba Artiste Nambol with 'Sen Thanaba', Yumjao Lairembi Dramatic Khagempalli with 'Keithel San' and Rang Tarang Wangkhei with 'Shaa marak Ngaa marak' .
