Highlighting the volatile law and order condition in the State following the continuing agitation against the killing of Thangjam Manorama by personnel of 17 Assam Rifles, Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba has appealed to the President of India to intervene an help remove Armed Forces Special Powers Act from the State, punish the killers of Manorama and pastor Jamkholet Khongsai and removal of Assam Rifles from Kangla.
In a memorandum, Maharaja asserted that there was not point in continuing the imposition of the AFSPA in the State as the act has failed to served its purpose that is to suppress insurgency in the State and added that insurgency problems have increased manifold since the imposition of AFSPA in 1980.He also said Central security forces armed with the dreaded black laws are regularly committing all sorts of inhuman atrocities on innocent civilians.
