International drug cartel busted, members of family held

A combined team of Narcotic and Affairs of Border (NAB) and Tengnoupal district police, arrested a family who are allegedly the biggest supplier of cross border drugs spanning Myanmar and India as follow up to the arrest of a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Manipur in connection with the smuggling of large consignment of synthetic drugs.
Briefing media persons at NAB office today, Thounaojam Brinda DSP NAB Manipur said that as a follow up action in connection with arrest of retired DSP Manipur Police, Abdul Latif and his wife Nasim Begum of Dewlaland Kabow Leikai, for alleged involvement in smuggling of a large quantity of WY tablets, a combined team of NAB and Tengnoupal district police, based on the disclosure of some arrested individuals including one Abdul Wahab (27) s/o Abothem of Keirao Mayai Leikai, were able to arrest three kingpins of the drug case from two different locations of Moreh today morning apart, from seizing drugs and other items.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Chalmawii Mizo Duhlian (53) w/o Hashim of Dalpati Road (near Madras Mandir, Moreh ward number 2), her daughter Lalrozami Mizo Duhlian (27) and her husband Sougaijam Robindro (28) s/o S Ibotombi of Kakching Wairi Thongam Leikai (presently staying at Moreh Supermarket, ward number 2).Brinda continued that the arrested individuals run the cross border drug cartel and alleged that the family is the biggest supplier of drugs stretching from Myanmar to India.
She stated that 5200 WY tablets, 100 grams of heroin powder, 28,801 Kyat (Burmese currency), Rs 1,13,150 in Indian currency, a Hyundai Creta, 10 mobile phones, 3 bank passbooks, 2 bank cheque books, 2 ATM cards and several incriminating documents were also seized.
She also explained that Abdul Wahab was arrested by NAB Manipur on May 1 from Lilong bazar area and was remanded to seven days in police custody (till May 8) by the Court.
Thomas Thokchom, DSP Commando Moreh was also present at the meet.
It may be mentioned that retired DSP Md Abdul Latif was arrested on April 13 from his residence based on the disclosure of one Manzil Ahmed Lasker who was arrested by a team of 23 Assam Rifles at Kaimai check post on April 10, for illegal transportation of 1 lakh WY tablets (weighing around 11.34 kilograms) in his Force Cruiser vehicle.
Special Court ND&PS Manipur, on April 24 , rejected the bail application of the retired DSP, his wife and Manzil Ahmed Lasker and remanded them to judicial custody till May 8 as well.
