Imphal, February 04 2014:
The Women Action for Development (WAD) has today urged Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to secure the people of the North East in the National Capital.
The recent 'systematic and intentional attack' upon North East youths in racial line clearly indicated that the people of the North East are not secured in such places, the WAD memo to the PM said.
Highlighting the brutal murder of (Late) Nido Tania, a 19 years old student from Arunachal Pradesh and the assault of two Manipuri women in Delhi, the WAD memo expressed serious concern about the alleged callous attitude and behaviour of the Delhi Police towards the North East girls.
"The recent assault of two girls by gangsters in full view of the passers-by and shopkeepers without any humane touch was not only the first case.
The attitude and behaviour of Delhi police detaining the said girls for about 9 hours when they tried to file an FIR in Kotla Mubarakpur Police Station was highly condemnable," it said.
It further said that had the Delhi police took such cases seriously, the recent cases could have been avoided.
