Taking strong exception to thrashing of the Kangchup Chiru village chief and four members of the Village Authority by suspected KRA cadres after summoning them to Kangchup ADC office on February 19, the Chiru leaders have demanded an explicit explanation on the assault.
The Chiru leaders were attending the All Chiru Community Solidarity Meet at Kangchup Chiru village today.
Addressing the meet former president of the Chiru Union (NEI) Alar Thoitak said that there has been an impasse over land between Kukis and Chirus of Kangchup since 1966. Concerning the land dispute between the two groups, the Gauhati High Court issued a judgement on February 6 last year.
Subsequently, the Senapati DC instructed the SDO of Saitu-Gamphazol twice on April 28 and August 22 last year to execute the Court order.
However, the Court order is yet to be implemented till date, disclosed Thoitak.
In connection with the existing land dispute, suspected KRA cadres summoned village chief Khonokung, VA members Wangneilet, Danirei, Chondoi and Chekneijam to the ADC office where they were not only beaten up but also forced to signed on KRA letterhead, Thoitak disclosed.
Asking whether the assault was undertaken with the knowledge of the KRA authority or it was perpetrated by some mercenaries, he demanded an explicit explanation from the KRA authority on the incident.
The relevant authority has also been intimated on non-compliance of Gauhati High Court order by the Gamphazol SDO, he informed.
Later the meeting adopted a resolution to condemn harassment of civilians by armed groups in any part of Manipur.
The solidarity meet was attended by leaders of Chiru villages located in Tamenglong, Senapati, CCpur dists and Waithou.
