Imphal, March 01 2023:
Regarding objections raised by Meetei Leepun against the content of a thesis submitted by one Brig SK Sarma to the Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi, Professor Amar Yumnam has clarified that he is only a co-guide and the question of him approving or not approving the controversial terms doesn't arise.
In a statement today, Professor Amar Yumnam said a co-guide is only consulted on selected areas as desired by a research scholar and there is no imperative that the co-guide should be consulted on every aspect of the issues being written.
Further, the examination and approval of the co-guide is not mandatory for submission of a thesis.
The present issue was first raised by a united group of students' organisations in Manipur and that was how he came to know of the content of the thesis being objected, said Amar Yumnam.
"In fact, I had shown them, in my computer, the complete papers submitted to me by the research scholar when they visited my home.
The particular terms of objection were just not here in the papers submitted to me for examination when we jointly went through the pages," said Amar Yumnam.
As his area of expertise in economics lies in the area of contemporary development, it must be for this reason that the research scholar did not show him any argument that involves the terms being objected to by the Meetei Leepun, Prof Amar Yumnam said."The research scholar submitted the thesis to his main University and I did not write the thesis.
The question of my approving or not approving the controversial terms doesn't arise," he said.
